Moyes' substitutions really piss me off. He never took advantage of the 5 sub rule like pretty much every other manager in the division last season, and he had a great opportunity to give a couple of kids some exposure last night.

He a couple of our kids 6 minutes to make an impression. He never made a 3rd change to put Silva (the only other striker we have in the whole squad) on.

We have one forward and he’s not performing. Such is the state of transfers over the last 5 2 seasons up front. We were saying same thing about the midfield and how long was it desperate until we signed Soucek? When Rice goes we default back to being back to the same pre Soucek. Unless they sign someone of course. I won’t hold my breath. They will be hoping Barkley can fill the space and we all know if he comes in how that will end don’t we.

Trundle: yes agree Masuaku-Cresswell-Etc etc
Same to be said of Haller. He’s out for a while and his performances seem to get forgotten. The reason he was dropped in the first place.

Neither are good enough so we need a new left back and that’s been the case for a while.

Watched the game , thought it was entertaining the fact we only played one central midfielder any manager worth his job side 2 nil down cup match throws caution to the wind and thats what bowyer did. Good runout for quite a few players , especially the defence and Cullen, Christ a lot worse against a lot worse over the years. As for cresswell no pace ,can't cross and equally can't defend huge factor in the Newcastle performance , Fredericks at least stopped maximum unlike zabba, Arthur still poor but offers something and better than cresswell now who looks finished at the top two divisions.

I think Yarmolenko has done more than Haller to deserve a starting berth against Arsenal going by the highlights where he seemed to be involved in every attack...

I agree about Masuaku. Posters on here must have a very short memory if they want to jump on the left back carousel again. It's glaringly obvious we need another one.

Last night did chuck up questions regarding team selection in other positions though for the Arsenal game.

Front 3 should be:
Antonio - Haller - Bowen (harsh on Yarmolenko but I think Bowen defends better)

I suppose if Leeds play their youth team against Hull they might lose, but seriously we should expect to play the mighty but dirty Leeds in the next round.
So Moyes v Bielsa, how do you think it will work out?

Cresswell not as good since his injury, but after previous league game performances Masuaku shouldn’t be anywhere near the the stadium when we go to Arsenal let alone play.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Charlton - Official Match Thread
I thought we played some much more attractive attacking football in this game than we did in the 'hit and hope' game against Newcastle

It was only Charlton but you still have to beat what's in front of you!

I thought Cullen's performance was outstanding and surely he should be pushing for Noble's position in our regular starting line up

Lanzini is slowly but surely getting back to his old self

Haller scored 2 but he probably missed just as many chances, if not more

Neither Cresswell nor Masuaka can defend for toffee but we look miles more effective with Masuaka marauding forward and taking on players rather than Cresswell breaking down any of our forward moves by turning and passing backwards at every opportunity

Cresswell also hides inside rather than attack the cross every time as opposed to Masuaka who always looks about to get a red card for a reckless challenge

Anderson was a bit better than of late but still should be showing a lot more. He looks like he's terrified of getting tackled

I'll take a win any day, but it doesn't even begin to paper over the cracks in our defence

I’m never going to turn my nose up at a comfortable cup win against lower league opposition. We all know how badly these games can go for us, even if it’s our first team we put out.

I’m pleased haller got some goals to follow on from Pre season

I’m pleased yarmolenko is starting to look like he’s finding his feet again

I’m pleased Anderson scores

I’m delighted Cullen had a motm display

I’m pleased Johnson got some more game time

I’m pleased that a team of players who haven’t all played together before won, keeping a clean sheet

Regardless of the obvious ongoing deficiencies in the team/squad/owners, I’m not going to look for something to moan about from last night - you never see Man City or Chelsea or Liverpool moaning if one of their £40m+ players scores against a lower league team in the cup

Well, having watched a little bit of the game and seen the goals, I think it's clear that our £100 million second string side are the equal of ANYONE in League 1.

Tex - Yep. Seen it many times before.Striker looks poor in the PL but play a div 1 side and he gets 2 goals.

I'd like to see him start the next few games, 40 odd fucking mill, we need to start getting some payback from the mardy cunt.

How the fuck is Yarmolenko there for the first goal and not offside? Did the Charlton defence wander off for a drinks break?

But not often in the Premier...

Barely a celebration for the goals. Which I liked. Those players should feel a bit embarrassed playing against Charlton in the league cup. Hope it spurs them on to getting it in gear for the league.

Decent result. If we’d have lost or not won well I’d be REALLY worried for the season ahead.

He's too slow and hideously one footed for that. Not much in the way of work rate either. He's worth keeping though because he's a goal threat.

Not sure what the ginger cunt will have learned from tonight. He either needs to drop a few of tonight's players into our next league loss starting lineup or it's been a pointless excercise.
